Research and Professional Interests
Dr. DeThorne is interested in causal influences on individual and group differences in child language development and potential implications for education and intervention practices. With the intent of bridging biomedical and social models of disability, Dr. DeThorne's clinical research has centered on children with autism spectrum disorder, developmental apraxia of speech, and users of augmentative and alternative technology (AAC). Dr. DeThorne teaches courses in childhood communication development, AAC, and preschool language disorders.
