Strategic Research Initiative Program grant awarded to Dr. Bottalico

Dr. Pasquale Bottalico and Dr. Yvonne Redman (School of Music) have been awarded a Strategic Research Initiative Program grant from the College of Fine and Applied Arts. The title of the grant and a brief summary are presented below.

Title:  Work-related communicative profile of Instructors of Voice in the Department of Music at UIUC.

Project Summary:   Music teachers, and specifically voice teachers with communicative disorders experience reduced quality of life due to activity limitations and participation restrictions. Moreover, communicative disorders reduce productivity at work and have been associated with work-related absenteeism. This project will determine changes in hearing function and voice quality that are associated with occupational voice use and noise exposure. The long-term goal of this research will be to create a Workplace Communicative Health Promotion program that promotes healthy behaviors on voice and hearing among voice teachers and the music teaching community.
