Description of SHS Student Awards 2016

The deadline to apply for the 2016 Student Awards is midnight on Wednesday, Feb 10, 2016. The following are links to the guidelines and application forms you’ll need in order to apply:

Graduate Student Awards

H. William Porterfield, M.D. and Linda Obenauf Porterfield Speech and Hearing Graduate Fellowship

To Master’s student in SHS who is planning to be a practitioner in the field, demonstrates exceptional academic merit and/or financial need, and who is a U.S. citizen. (two @$1,000 or one at $2,000)

Ehud and Janie Yairi International Graduate Student

Graduate student award for international doctoral students in SHS with preference given to student pursuing research in area of stuttering. Income may be used for a single graduate award or divided among more. Awards may be of different amounts, reflecting both academic merit and financial need. Recipients may receive the graduate student award for up to 3 years but amount of the award may vary. ($1,000)

Dean C. and Kathleen R. Garstecki Audiology Scholarship Fund

For PhD students enrolled in SHS. Preference to offset tuition costs for full time PhD student in Audiology, full-time AuD student and other full-time PhDs students in SHS who engage in applied research in hearing. ($1,000)

Lingua Health Bilingual Scholarship

For high achieving students with preference given to those with GPA in SHS courses of 3.8 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference given to students who stand out due to service activities and or/leadership abilities and to those with an interest in Applied Phonetics/Phonology who intend to become a certified SLP. Further preference given to international students or to those who are bilingual. ($1,000)

Undergraduate Student Awards

Barbara Williams Hodson Scholarship Fund

For high achieving students with preference given to those with GPA in SHS courses of 3.8 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference given to students who stand out due to service activities and or/leadership abilities and to those with an interest in Applied Phonetics/Phonology who intend to become a certified SLP.  Further preference given to international students or to those who are bilingual. ($1,000)

Undergraduate or Graduate Awards

Joan Good Erikson Scholarship

Annual graduate award or undergraduate scholarship for students who have a demonstrated interest in multicultural issues. ($1,000)

Frances L. Johnson Student Award

Award based on academic merit or financial need, recognizing undergraduate or graduate students studying clinical programs. ($500)

Sylvia Wacker Herzog Scholarship

For undergrad or graduate students in SHS, with preference given to recipients that plan to work in the school system following graduation. Based on academic merit ($1,000)
